The Shore
By Steve Alm
Worked half a day then took an 8 mile bike ride in 88 degree sun. A little more than half way through, I stopped at the Tiki Hut, a Hilton Head beach bar, to hear my favorite group, Cornbred, play some tunes. When they got to The Boys Are Back In Town, I started looking around me. People smiling, laughing, having a cold one – some head out toward the Atlantic, some ordering drinks, some yakking to each other, some singing along, some hopping up and down to the music, some in shorts and tees, some in swimwear – most watching and listening and bobbing along. The Boys Are Back – I could almost picture Dunny and Kazutz and The Ogre and The Paw, and The Owl and Moe and The Dego and The Hawk and The Whale and Bob Who and Max. Were they still at the Jersey Shore or Rehobeth Beach or Fort Lauderdale? They could almost be here – wish that they were. It’s the same basic scene over the years. People celebrating the sun, the beach, the music, each other and what we can have sometimes in this great time and place where we live.
